SmartRead is a Chrome extension that helps users summarize web page content using AI. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

Data We Collect

SmartRead collects minimal data necessary for its core functionality:

• API Key: Your AI provider API key is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API. This key is never sent to our servers and is only used to authenticate requests directly with your chosen AI provider.
• Web Page Content: The text content of the web page you are viewing is temporarily processed to generate a summary. This content is sent directly to your chosen AI provider and is not stored or logged by us.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect personal identification information
• We do not collect browsing history
• We do not collect financial information
• We do not collect location data
• We do not collect health information
• We do not track user behavior or analytics

How Data Is Used

• Your API key is used solely to authenticate with your chosen AI provider
• Web page content is processed only when you explicitly click the summarize button
• All processing occurs between your browser and the AI provider directly

Data Storage

All user data (API key, preferences) is stored locally in your browser using the Chrome storage API. No data is transmitted to or stored on our servers.

Third-Party Services

SmartRead integrates with AI providers (such as DeepSeek) to generate summaries. When you use the extension, page content is sent directly to your configured AI provider. Please refer to your AI provider's privacy policy for their data handling practices.

Permissions Used

• activeTab: To access the content of the currently active tab when you request a summary
• storage: To save your API key and preferences locally
• contextMenus: To provide right-click menu access to summarization

Children's Privacy

SmartRead does not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
